    Stone has always been obsessed with brewing bold, high-quality craft beer. When Stone developed this pleasantly bitter, deliciously lemony IPA, they took it as an opportunity to do something they'd spent over a year researching and perfecting: reducing the amount of gluten in the beer to the degree that nearly everyone could experience Stone's no-holds-barred approach to craft brewing.

    An enzyme added during the brewing process called Clarity Ferm did the heavy lifting, cutting the bee's gluten content to well below the threshold of 20 parts per million required by the Food and Drug Administration to label a product gluten-free. What it did not diminish by any stretch was this IPA's flavor.

    Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA (Can) ABV: 8.7% | IBU: 90 First brewed briefly in 2007 as Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this beer was an instant hit. We loved everything about it and missed it terribly when it was gone. So after long months full of serious jonesing, we brought it back full-time as Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA. It had a great run, but eventually black IPAs fell out of favor and this dark, dank beauty headed to retirement. Alas, such are the vagaries of craft beer. Cue a return of the serious jonesing. Like, really serious. On a nearly daily basis since then, our fans have reminded us of the indelible impression this beer left on them. So in acknowledgement of all the righteousness still in the world, in this beer, and in your impeccable taste, we offer it up once again with its original artwork (by Edson Ruiz). He checked all those boxes and joined Stone to make this inspired and unique creation. Stone's Berlin Brewmaster Thomas Tyrell has spent many years studying and brewing versions of the consummate Berlin style, the Berliner Weisse. Todd was intrigued with the idea of berizing (wasn't a real word before, but it is now) the style and wanted to further berize (how quickly a new word can find its way into the lexicon) with the addition of ginger root and Citrus Hystrix leaf. They worked perfectly, as you'll see. Todd, Thomas and Greg all agreed they'd never tasted anything quite like it before, and that they all loved it. So now, it has traveled time and space to you.
