    White Oak Single Malt Whisky AKASHI Aged 15 Years Stated Age: 15 years old | Strength: 58.0 % Vol. | Size: 500 ml | Bottling: 795 bottles This ‘Akashi’ single malt whisky has been aged for 12 years in used Spanish Brandy casks. These casks are over 20 years old, have never been reconditioned and are still used today to age various malts at the distillery. It then spent a further 2.5 years in Konara Oak casks. Konara (Quercus serrata) is related to the famous Mizunara. Eigashima uses Konara oak to mature some of their Nihonshu (Sake) and when they decided to transfer some of their oldest stock to ex-white wine casks from their winery in Yamanashi two and a half years ago, they had enough left to fill one more cask. And so the remainder of that whisky – that had been maturing in Spanish Brandy casks for 12 years and a half – was transferred to a virgin Konara cask. After 2 years and a half of further maturation in Konara, their 15yo was released.     Taketsuru 12 Year Old 40% | 700mL A younger blended malt from the Nikka family, Nikka Taketsuru is named after Masataka Taketsuru, who founded the company in 1934. World Whiskies Awards 2012 - Best Non-Scotch Blended Malt 12 years and under Color: Bright gold Nose: Fruity and floral. Notes of apple pie, plum jam, vanilla and cappuccino. Also an occassional whiff of peat. Palate: Sweet and smooth, hints of apple, nutmeg and subtle vannila flavours, thick and honied. Buttery toffee, with spicey notes. Highly sip-able. Finish: Quite creamy and medium-long, with vanilla and apple notes topped with a few grains of salt. Light peat flavour remains after the oak is gone.     Yoichi 10 Year Old 45% | 700mL Yoichi 10 Year Old Whisky is adored for its smoky, oak, spicy and oily flavor notes. One batch of this received 93 points in the Jim Murray Whisky Bible. Nose: Plenty of fruit notes - peach stands out in particular, ripe, vibrant and subtly floral. Then there's rich vanilla custard, peat smoke and a hint of nutmeg spice. Palate: Oily and sweet, with peat smoke following swiftly afterwards. Light oak and developing fruit notes beneath. Finish: Appealing oak lasts on the finish.
